More Myths & Facts: Let’s Talk About the Role of AEM in the 2024 AT Guidance

The U.S. Department of Education’s 2024 AT guidance, commonly known as "the Myths and Facts,” is an essential resource for special education leaders and IEP Teams. Due to the symbiotic relationship between AT and accessible educational materials (AEM), questions have arisen about how AEM fits in the guidance. Similar to AT, AEM is a complex topic for which many misconceptions exist. This presentation uses the myths and facts approach taken by the AT guidance to create an interactive learning opportunity about the interconnection between AT and AEM considerations in special education services and the IEP development process.

Navigating a New Landscape of Digital Accessibility Requirements in K-12

The year 2024 brought both clarity and urgency from the federal government for states and districts to ensure that digital learning environments are accessible for students with disabilities. The Department of Education (ED) released new AT guidance and a revised National Educational Technology Plan with tens of instances of the word “accessible.” And the Department of Justice published new regulations establishing web and mobile app accessibility requirements.
