ATIA: Accessibility in Action – Practices that Empower Assistive Technology
–
January 31, 2026
Assistive technology (AT) is intended to support student access to instructional materials, but many students who use AT still face barriers when digital content isn’t designed with accessibility in mind. This session introduces five foundational accessibility practices that make digital content more compatible with AT: using accessible PDF files, accurate video captions, descriptive links, proper color contrast, and simple navigation. Presenters will demonstrate the real-world impact of accessibility on common AT tools. Attendees will leave with tools, practical strategies, ready-to-use resources, and conversation starters to advocate for the creation and selection of accessible content for all learners.
